Great Lakes Ship Memorabilia
Contact: Bruce Shepperd
Address: 29 Marshall Street East, Meaford
The home of Captain Bruce Shepperd is a drive-by attraction that is a must see. Located at 29 Marshall Street East, his front yard houses an eclectic collection of marine memorabilia. Bruce, who is now retired, began working on the waters of Georgian Bay at the age of 16. On his front lawn is his own personal history of his years from the Great Lake’s shipping industry. Captain Shepperd has rescued much of his memorabilia from ships that were destined to be sold for scrap. The Algoway, a ship that Bruce was captain of, was one such ship that was bound for the scrap yard. He salvaged the stern anchor from this ship, and is one of the items he displays proudly in his yard. By rescuing a stern anchor or a solitary propeller blade, Captain Sheppard is able to keep the memories of his marine life alive.
