Big Apple Information Booth

The Big Apple is in the “core” of Meaford, located on Sykes Street right downtown. The Big Apple is a symbol of Meaford’s apple growing heritage. It was built in 1974 as a Centennial Project in order to support tourism growth. It has accomplished this job by operating as a tourist information outlet. Managed and staffed by our Chamber of Commerce, the Big Apple is open from Victoria Day weekend to Thanksgiving, and the knowledgeable staff field roughly 3500 tourism related questions annually. If one looks closely at our Apple, you may notice a slight resemblance to the Giant Tomato in Leamington. We were able to adapt the plans of the Giant Tomato to construct our Big Apple. Constructed out of Spruce and Fiberglass, it is 15ft in diameter and houses information on the area, the surrounding counties and Ontario. Our Big Apple is a well-known roadside attraction that was featured in a short documentary. It has also been listed on various website around the world featuring roadside attractions and thus, has become quite famous. We have visitors from all over come just to see what the Apple is all about!
