Orchards
Meaford, the apple capital of Ontario, is also the northern-most apple producing area in Ontario and has been growing apples since 1846. There are approximately 2500 acres making up 14 orchards in the Municipality of Meaford. We grow the highest quality Macintosh Apples in North America, which makes up 40% of what we grow. Another 25% of our acreage is dedicated to Northern Spy, and we also grow Red Delicious, Idared, Gala, Jerseymac, and many others. Some of the larger orchards operate year-round markets and they provide apple products such as fresh cider, apple butter and warm, homemade apple pies.
The apple orchards in Meaford are breathtaking in the spring when they are filled with intoxicating apple blossoms and many orchards will do guided tours in the spring, summer and fall.
